What are some baby accessories that you feel a baby doesnt really need?
I find that there are a lot of things new moms buy thinking their new baby needs them or because it makes life a lil easier, like matching buggies/bedding etc etc. What are some gadgets/toys/accessories that you think are not necessary?

Shoes. Newoborns and young babies don’t walk why do we waste money on shoes! I bet I got 25 pair of shoes at my shower and my son will never wear any of them.

Babies need food, water, shelter and TWO!! loving, attentive parents. Everything else is fluff.
We received a baby monitor as a shower gift, used it the first night and never again.

a boppy unless being breastfed, like a thousand bed sheets and clothes, a bassinett, a pacifier, pick between a bouncer and a swing don’t need both, pick between a high chair and a booster seat don’t need both.

Geeze that was a waste! Okay so your room doesn’t smell but the smell when you have to take that stupid caterpillar looking turd string out was horrendous!

I think people overbuy receiving blankets….I swear with my first I had 30 of them. You really only need 4 or 5 I think. Here’s a list of things I think are a waste of money:
wipes warmer (what happens when they get used to warm wipes and you don’t have any…like if you’re out?)
~pacifier keeper
~matching laundry hamper (just wash the stuff if it’s got pee on it…do you really want it stinking in the room)
~3 million pairs of socks
Ok, so I thought my list would be longer…I can’t really think. I think mostly people buy too many newborn clothes….they grow out of them way too fast. 5 of each IMO should be good.

I also agree with shoes, I didn’t put shoes on my little boy till almost 9 months when he started walking – my little girl is 7 months and was given many pairs of shoes and they’ve just sat in her drawer. It’s a waste of money for sure.
I also did not use my diaper genie for more than a month, haven’t even used one this time around. I also never bought a changing table – which I know some parents think are an absolute must have, I always changed my son on the bed and with my daughter I have an area set up on a spare love seat or I’ll just change her on the rug.
We had my parents purchase a really expensive crib that turns into a day bed and then you can use the back as a headboard on a bed – we never used it as a day bed and we opted to getting our son a full size bed and the headboard just didn’t seem to work right with it. Our daughter is now in the crib so it wasn’t a complete waste of money.
Used a boppy pillow maybe 4 times, didn’t care for it. We used a tummy time mat for our son but our daughter hasn’t like it much. Every baby is different, there are toys that we bought for our son when he was a baby and he barely used them, our daughter on the other hand loves them so they turned out not to be a waste of money. You never know.

These are some things that I wasted money on, never used and utimately donated…..
Baby wipe warmer….. it burns the baby wipes towards the bottom and was a pain to use.
Tummy time pillow…… it was akward to use and wound up using a bed pillow for tummy time.
Boppy pillow…… it never lifted the baby up high enough and I had to pile bed pillows on my lap on top of it.
I’m sure there is a bunch more, I would buy stuff cause it looked cute even though I never wound up using them. I probably spent a couple hundred dollars on stuff that wound up in the garbage.

too many clothes. I decided not to get the big stroller, and am getting the in between size that lays down but is like an umbrella. too many toys, stuffed animals (I can’t stand them!) I think people over do with getting a swing and a bouncer and the sit in toys, and a johnny jump up; I say choose 1. The little things like a wipe warmer.

I never used: boppy, bottle warmer, "baby on board" sign (gift) and many of the toys that we got. A lot of the bedding was not used – I didn’t use the bumper pad with my second, and unless you plan to put it on the rocking chair or hang it on the wall, the blanket is not necessary (doctors advise not using a blanket on babies – SIDS risk). I was told that wipe warmers dry out your wipes – big waste!
Swings and bouncers are lifesavers!

Wipe warmers. Unless you live in Siberia, they seem like a waste of time and energy to me.

I also found shoes a waist of money. I never bought any until my daughter was walking really well. I got several as gifts, that are as new as the day I got them
I found a changing table was not needed. I found it easer to change my daughter where ever we were. Changing a baby 10-12 times a day…you don’t want to always go to the changing table.
A second carseat base…we would just take my car everywhere we went. Rather then putting on in my husbands car.
A ton of newborn clothing. Babies grow out of them so fast. Also, getting tons of clothing in the larger sizes. Just wait and get them as you need them.
Also, when you get bottles, don’t get to many of one brand. Just in case they don’t like that brand.

infant shoes, baby kimonos, baby powder, expensive $200 and $300 showy crib bedding that has a comforter and a pillow, changing table a big waste of money and r dangerous, baby wipe warmers they cook the wipes turning them brown, brush and comb set, bathtub seats.

We didn’t use the changing table much at all. I changed him in his crib most of the time. The only thing I really use it for was towels, receiving blankets, ect.

We never used a mobile over our daughters bed.
The activity tables are not only useless, but a hazard. The fall over on top of the child.
I didn’t like her swing….after a cesarean it was next to impossible for me to bend over with her in my arms to put her into the swing, and once she got to about 8 months, she was afraid to be in it.
Babyfood/babybottle warmer…useless. The microwave works so much better.
Those pads that keep your baby from rolling over at night…(2 cylinders on either side of baby).

Babies do not need MOST of the products that are geared towards them. The only necessities are really diapers (cloth or disposable), wipes (again, cloth or disposable), bottles if you are not going to breastfeed, and a car seat.
I am currently expecting my third child, and 7+ years have passed since the birth of my second. There are a lot of items we are choosing not to get this time around, because we know they are completely useless to us…and there are items that are certainly not necessities that we are choosing to buy because we know they will be helpful, even if not necessary, or we just like them (such as the matching stroller/car seat, the diaper bag that matches that, etc).
This really extends beyond baby accessories and equipment, too. The majority of things we posess are not NECESSARY. It all comes down to personal desire and preferences.
