What is the difference between all the different baby strollers and car seats?

I know a lot of people are using the convertible units (even though I don’t really know what they are)? I know I can purchase the stroller and car seat apart – but can I purchase them together – do they detatch and hook into one another? Are they worth buying? I am confused about all the different options. Please help.

Yes, they hook into each other such as this:

There are infant carseat (like the one pictured) and convertible carseats like this one:

Convertible carseats are more upright and are bigger. Whereas infant carseats are smaller and made more for newborns/infants who don’t yet have neck or back support. Convertible carseats can be used for infants, but normally are used for toddlers about 1+ years.

Travel systems (the stroller and carseat together) are very handy. They offer more support for an infant and allow the baby to face you. Not to mention, they are normally cheaper than buying both items separate.

We bought a travel system (car seat and stroller together) to start with. I think they’re indispensable the first few months.

Those infant carrier seats are a necessary evil because sometimes you just need to set your baby down somewhere. How else can you grocery shop, go to a doctor’s appointment, etc. otherwise. My child hated all forms of slings and baby carriers. It so great to come back from an errand to bring in the whole seat and let your baby go on napping after you get home.

The stroller to which you can attach the infant seat is nice if you want to hit the mall, the zoo, basically anywhere you want to walk without lugging the 20 lbs of baby and infant carrier.

We switched to a convertible seat one our daughter could sit up on her own so that I could strap her into shopping carts when needed.

Yes the ones that come with a stroller and car seat fit together. I have one of those. I went on the babiesrus.com website and read all the reviews. I think they are the most helpful since the reviews come from mothers who have recently purchased them. Also you can go to a babiesrus and talk to someone who works there. Even walmart.com and Target has reviews.
