who makes the best and safest baby strollers and baby seats?

Posted on February 5th, 2010 by admin

there is Graco, Evenflo, Chicco and some others. So many to choose. Which is THE BEST?

Its a matter of opinion but I reallllly LOVED my son’s Eddie Bauer Stroller and Carrier Combo :) It held up very well and My friend had the same brand car seat and stroller set and she had a car wreck and Thankfully her baby did not get hurt, That’s actually what made me go with Eddie Bauer* But like I said its a matter of opinion"

If you want an infant carrier seat (one that you can take out of the car and put in a stroller), you want to get a Graco Snugride. They have the best safety ratings, and are priced reasonably. If you want a carseat that stays in the car, Britax has the best safety ratings. We started with a Graco, and when they outgrew that, moved to a Britax Marathon.

From the safety reviews I’ve read…
Chicco and the Baby Trend Flex-Loc have the safest infant seats. Once they’re old enough for a convertible car seat, Britax is the safest, though the Graco My Ride I think ranks up there with Britax. But, until they are old enough (older than 6 months at least) then you want them in an infant seat.

Something to keep in mind though is that a baby should spend only 2 hours at most in an infant car seat or similar (so if the swing is at an angle instead of laying back, or the bouncer, then you have to add that in.) They did some studies last year talking about angles and how it reduces breathing (20% of all babies in an infant carrier will experience some breathing issues) and how it has killed some babies. Now, with that in mind, the Baby Trend Flex-Loc has actually been the first that I’ve seen to respond and put two angling devices in their car seat. One for under 20lbs, and one for above 20lbs, to make sure the baby is at the safest angle for a crash, and for their breathing (45degrees.) I expect to see more innovations for safety breathing in the future, but right now, I don’t recall seeing any of the others respond to it yet. So we’re going with the Baby Trend Flex-Loc at this point, and a baby carrier for moving him out of the seat.

As far as strollers, my doctor recommended a jogger because it handles our terrain better, and I have to say I wish I had gone with that first rather than the Graco. Joggers almost always have an H harness (ours does) which is so much safer, and the biggest recalls have been concerning brake failure (which you can avoid by not relying on the brake, ours doesn’t have a brake other than mom slowing it down and a safety strap in case I was to let go, it would stay attached to me and stop.) But we live in an area that, to go over to the park, you need to go through a few fences, over dirt lots, grass, and sand. :P So the larger wheels of a jogger or all-terrain stroller worked MUCH better. I like ours because it’s thinner. It happens to be Baby Trend which actually means we’ll be able to attach the baby carrier to the stroller, if I wanted to, but I don’t plan on doing that because of breathing issues (and because my toddler loves her jogger.)

Add: "Dec. 18, 2009 – More than 400,000 Dorel infant car seats are recalled because the handle can loosen and come off when it is used as a carrier, which poses a fall hazard. Several models of Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney branded infant car seats are included in this recall. Click the headline link for a complete list of model numbers. Affected infant car seats were manufactured between Jan. 6, 2008 and Apr. 6, 2009. This recall only affects the use of the infant car seat as a carrier. It is still safe to use these car seats in the car. Some were sold as travel systems with a stroller. The stroller is not included in the recall. Call 866-762-3316 or visit djusa.com/safetynotice to receive a repair kit. "

"In a week or so Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) will announce a recall of more than four million Cosco and Eddie Bauer car seats. The models affected are Cosco Alpha/Omega, Touriva and Hi Back and Eddie Bauer Touriva and Hi Back car seats. -January 27, 2010"

I agree with Proud Mommy – we have the Graco Snugride now and will soon "move up" to a Britax. I did a lot of research into both and they are top of the line.

As an aside, do NOT get a used car seat. You never really know if they have been in an accident, which renders them unusable. A used stroller is fine I believe, as long as you have checked it out.
